THE MABE FAMILY IN NICARAGUA

About US

Ryan and Lena

We are so excited to serve the people in Nicaragua. God started molding his plans for us when we were just in college at Liberty University in Lynchburg, Virginia. We met there 14 years ago in math class and as they say the rest is history. We have been married for 12 years as of August 2023. We both have always had a heart for missions and God showed us where he wanted us to be in March 2017. We have been to Nicaragua several times since then and have fallen further in love with God's people and His call for us. We cannot wait to begin our next journey in life with our little family, God, and Nicaragua.

Hannah

Hannah is 9 years old and full of energy. As you can see, she loves dance and tumble. She is a wonderful big sister and will help out with her brother or sister whenever she can. Hannah loves God and loves to serve. Her favorite things to do are coloring, drawing, and making cards to send out to people who are sick or who have missed church. We are looking forward to seeing her grow and learn how to serve the Lord even more.

Josiah

Josiah is 7 years old. He is very loving and has a big heart. He loves to help others especially through delivering food to those in need. He is also great with prayer. Josiah loves to play disc golf, baseball, basketball, and wrestling. He is a very active and energetic little boy. We are excited to see his love for people and God grow.

Sarah

Sarah is one year old. She is full of smiles and loves to talk. She loves her siblings and is very observant. We are so thankful that Sarah will be able to grow up completely within the mission field.

More About Us

Our Testimony

Lena-

I grew up in the United Methodist Church and attended every Sunday with my parents. The church gave me the basic foundations of my Christian beliefs, but it wasn't until I was a sophomore in college that I decided for myself to fully accept Jesus and God into my life. Once I became a child of God, I began learning more about God and how he could use me. I always had a knack for helping others, but little did I know what God had in store for me. As I grew closer to God, he led me to Ryan who has helped me to understand and grow in my faith so much more. We are a team working for the Lord. In the Summer of 2017, Ryan and I took our youth group to a missions' conference. Our pastor, Michael, at the time went with us to the conference and he and his wife, Tabatha, asked Ryan and I to think about going to Nicaragua. At the time, I was 8 or 9 months pregnant with Josiah and I told them absolutely not. I could not leave my newborn baby at home. In the days to follow God began working on my heart at this missions' conference, and I knew where he was leading me. I finally told them that I would go to Nicaragua, and it was the best choice that I made. Since our first trip to Nicaragua, I have made many relationships, and watched many people get saved. I cannot wait to see the things that God does through me when we move. Continue to pray for us daily as we make this transition and as our testimonies begin to grow even more.

Ryan-

I’ve wrestled with the thoughts of how small or unimportant my testimony is. I grew up with Christian parents who took me to church every week. I accepted Jesus as my Lord and Savior during AWANA’s when I was 8 years old. I don’t remember much from those early days except for getting on my knees and confessing Jesus as Lord, asking for his forgiveness, and trusting in Him. During my teenage years I got into a poor relationship and made some bad choices. Even through those years of poor decisions God still loved me, he still desired to have a relationship with me. Although I was distant from him, and trying to fill that void that came from a lacking relationship with him, he was still there for me. After that relationship ended, God began changing my focus. He gave me a desire to serve others and gave me several opportunities to go on mission trips where I felt God’s call to serve in the ministry. It was there that I felt renewed and a deeper sense of purpose in my life. I had gone from wandering aimlessly, knowing where I should be and what I should be doing to actually doing it. However, even after that there continued to be seasons where I struggled. Where I don’t spend enough time in the Word and in prayer and I can feel how different areas of my life are impacted. Each time I get back to where I am supposed to be, spending time with God and growing in my relationship with him, everything seemed to flow so much smoother. While I may have once thought that my testimony wasn’t extravagant, it is no less important. God uses us just as we are, through all the experiences, the ups and downs, and ultimately through our Salvation through the blood of Christ. While there are those who don’t know Christ that I will never be able to relate to on an experiential level, there are others whose stories are quite similar to mine. At the end of the day, we are called to tell others about Jesus and leave the results up to Him. Our testimony, our personal experience, is a key component of that.

Romans 10:14

How then will they call on him in whom they have not believed? And how are they to believe in him of whom they have never heard? And how are they to hear without someone preaching?

He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation.”

Mark 16:15

How Our Ministry Started

Ryan and I first went to Nicaragua in 2017 with a group from our home church along with a church from South Carolina. Ryan served in the medical clinics, and I worked with the children. We both were able to go door to door inviting people to church and to ask them if they believed in God. After that visit, we both knew we would end up there full time as missionaries one day. The group we are working with has been working in Nicaragua and Honduras for over 20 years and we look forward to helping continue the ministry there. Our focus will be on helping churches with their ministries with children and youth programs at first and then expanding to a new ministry which will focus on children with special needs.
